The Local Group

Taking their name from the cluster of galaxies containing the Milky Way, the Local Group plays music of astronomical proportions. With roots in rural Saskatchewan and Australia, his Saskatoon-based quartet puts their own unique spin on traditional acoustic music, including bluegrass, celtic, classic country, and Canadiana. Featuring hot banjo, mandolin and guitar picking, tight harmonies, and a mixed bag of instruments including double bass, fiddle, harmonica, penny whistle and triangle, their show will take you out of this world on a rocket fueled by pure folk music.

Wade Fehr

Wade Fehr has been performing around Saskatchewan for the past 20 years, most recently as a founding member of the Prince Albert based band The Goats.

Born and raised on the prairies his songwriting reflects the wide open spaces and living skies. Playing an eclectic mix of country, blues and singer/songwriter styles he reaches a large variety of music lovers. A talented guitarist, Wade also mixes in the sounds of the harmonica and other instruments. Music has always been more than a passion for Wade; it’s been an essential part of life.

BJ & Friends

This is half of a group that has been entertaining together for about seven years.

We perform at senior’s clubs, community events and fundraisers as well as nursing homes, churches and various celebrations.

We serve up a variety of selections in the bluegrass, country and gospel and have a great time doing it.

Jolie Blue

A born-and-raised plainsman from South Central Saskatchewan, Jolie Blue has been drifting from coast to coast and back again for the last decade or so singing songs of our homeland.

Like his hero before him, Stompin’ Tom Connors, Blue has a taste for stories and songs of the North.

Playing a sub-genre if you will, known as ‘Identifiably Canadian Music’, Jolie Blue’s set will leave you feeling as patriotic as a lumberjack sipping a tall cool glass of maple syrup.

 The Chickadees

Break out your boas and let The Chickadees take you on a twisty toe-tapping musical ride with fresh feathered takes on your favourite rock & roll refrains.  Featuring Konni Horne on accordion, Jovan Larre on banjo, Nicola Tabb on double bass, and Lisa Unrau on guitar, these four songbirds mix old country with classic rock and serve it up with a big ol’ dash of charm.  Original tunes ride the polka line between bluegrass and Cajun rhythms, and sweet three-part harmonies combined with clever tempo changes are sure to keep you captivated by The Chickadees!

Rhyme or Reason

This trio consists of Jake (Bass) and Elfriede (vocals, guitar) Reimer from Denare Beach and Dennis Hughes (vocals, guitar) from Yorkton and are often joined by Jake and Elfriede’s daughter Megan.

They have played and performed together off and on for a lot of years at folk festivals, coffee houses and,  more recently, at Tennents Musicians Reunion. They enjoy most genres of music – everything from folk, bluegrass and country to classic rock. They can often be seen and heard in harmony at various fundraisers and at Local Routes in Flin Flon MB.

In With The Old

In With The Old seamlessly combines raw talent and prairie camaraderie with a passion and respect for the music from the past. Young and dedicated, they take a unique approach to memorable oldtime music through gifted harmonies and infectious songwriting all told through a small town perspective. They are highly influenced by great traditional bluegrass and oldtime artists like The Carter Family and The Stanley Brothers, but also by many other genres, ranging in style from rock to folk to doowop.

Jake and Ira

Jake Vaadeland & Ira Amundson are best friends and multi-instrumentalists and have been performing together for about 2 years. At 16 and 14 years old respectively, Jake & Ira have quickly become sought after performers, including appearances at Telemiracle along with the opportunity to open for Bluegrass powerhouses like Claire Lynch and Andrew Sneddon & Matthew Hornell. This September, Jake & Ira will be heading to Nashville & Monteagle, Tennessee to work with banjo legend, Charlie Cushman of the Earls of Leicester. As avid outdoorsmen, when not playing music, Jake & Ira spend free time together at the log cabin that Jake built over the last year and where he now lives off the grid in the summer months, honing their musical craft and adding songwriting to their skillset. You can find Jake & Ira on Instagram at @jakeandiramusic or on Facebook at Jake & Ira Music and follow their adventures there!
