Kieren Poile – Ryan McNally Band

Hailing from Whitehorse in the Yukon Territory, Kieran Poile has been brought up in the Bluegrass and old-time fiddle tradition. He has played at numerous festivals and events with the Ryan McNally Band including the Kansas City International Folk Music Conference, the Dawson City Music Festival, the Atlin Arts and Music Festival, the South Country Fair, and played for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, among others. He has also played fiddle with groups such as the Canadian Folk Music Award-nominated Notre Dame de Grass, the Quebec Independent Music Award-nominated Lil Andy, and was a performer for the longest-running independent theatre company in North America: the Frantic Follies Vaudeville Revue. He is very happy to be teaching and playing at the Northern Lights Bluegrass & Old Tyme Festival this year!

Intermediate Bluegrass Fiddle
The class will consist of learning two new tunes on the first two days and, with the class’s own ideas and input, arrange harmonies and countermelodies to these songs. The third day will be about exploring the methods and techniques within the old-time and bluegrass style that you can use to improve your playing ability!

Students interested in taking the Intermediate Bluegrass Fiddle class should possess some prior knowledge and a moderate degree of skill in old-time or bluegrass fiddle music and know some of the most common tunes within the styles.
